During the last three years my work has centred on materials, I have looked at nature’s creation of materials, how they are used by animals and insects to create shelter, as well as man’s use of materials and their disposal, including the resultant evidence of pollution in the environment.
My latest piece of work ‘Running Machine’ satirically explores man’s relationship with machinery and his insatiable demand for new technology. Within this piece of work I look to question this ever increasing demand for advancing technology and its casual disposability within our changing society, as well as its consequential demand on energy and resources. This in turn highlights the increasing disparity between those who have ready access to technology and resources, and those in undeveloped societies who struggle to survive their daily toil.
Through this route of enquiry I have become acutely aware of the demand on natural resources and man's reluctance to accept the longer term implications this may have on society and our planet.
I hope to bring this issue of resource use and depletion to the attention of a wider audience and prompt an intelligent response to resource use and conservation.
